At Sapien, we’re building the intelligence layer for enterprise finance. Why? The world’s largest companies are flying blind. Every day, multi-million-dollar decisions rely on slow and inaccurate analyses—and they’re often made with little to no data to support them.
We’re building autonomous coworkers that deeply understand companies across their massive key financial data sources. Sapien doesn’t just query information, it works alongside finance teams to execute complex analyses and take actions that drive growth, learning more about how companies operate and building unique intuitions just as humans do.
We’re aiming to create systems that can enable humans to do more of what matters, the high-level strategic decision making, while doing less of the low-level data gathering and number crunching that dominates their work. Sapien is already deployed at manufacturing, software, and services businesses where we’re saving hundreds of hours each month, unlocking new analyses, and have even uncovered multi-million dollar mistakes.
Can AI run a company? We’re working to prove that it can.
We’re constantly working on productizing the cutting-edge of AI research. The work of our Applied AI engineers focuses on our AI infrastructure, specifically in terms of reasoning, capabilities, observability, and architectures.
Some key problems this role thinks about include building novel data representations across Excel, ERPs, and CRMs, creating verifiable tool traces for agent actions, implementing library learning to strengthen this tool library, creating new agentic frameworks for efficient context passing, fine-tuning embedding models based on customer actions, grounding reasoning in learned concepts for complex financial processes, and more.
We’re excited about people with a desire to own hard problems end-to-end, from research to product. You’re a great fit for this role if you have deep algorithmic intuitions and love solving new, open-ended problems every single day—adapting fast to new settings. You’re an even better fit if you are curious and build strong views on ideal paradigms (if you love graphical structures, you’ll love Sapien). Our favorite people to work with are those who deeply care about what they’re working on, bring in new knowledge from paper’s they’ve read, and are excited to engage in stimulating discussion where everyone learns and improves their understanding.
Our culture is R&P: research and product. Traditionally, doing research entails working in the back of a lab for weeks/months and coming up for air only on rare occasions. At Sapien, we’re all about pushing the bounds of possibility while iterating rapidly. We build everything in-house, and we’re constantly shipping new representations, frameworks, UX paradigms, in-house models, and more. The goal is to move fast and iterate relentlessly with customers, gathering data on which features are most useful or work best, and which are less important so we can push the bounds of both underlying tech and product experience.
We’re based in San Francisco, with plans to move to NYC in the coming months. We’re a tight-knit, energetic team that love spending long hours nerding out about hard problems and occasionally letting loose over poker nights, sports games, movie nights and other events at our office.
We’re a high-velocity, highly technical, talent-dense team working that are productizing the cutting edge of AI research. If you’re excited about working on hard problems with high impact and thinking end-to-end (from deep research to customers to optimizations), Sapien is the team for you.
